Clean Bench (Laminar Flow Hood)‌

A clean bench is a device designed to provide a local dust-free and sterile operating environment, primarily used to protect experimental samples or products from external contamination. It works by drawing air in through a pre-filter with a fan, then expelling it after passing through a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, creating a vertical or horizontal laminar airflow that achieves a Class 100 cleanliness level in the operating area.

‌Purpose‌: Protects samples or products from dust or bacterial contamination in the surrounding environment.
‌Safety‌: Operates under positive pressure; the laminar airflow may direct air containing microbial materials toward the operator, posing safety risks.
‌Applications‌: Suitable for experiments requiring high cleanliness but no biological hazards, such as cell culture or precision instrument operation.

‌Difference from Biosafety Cabinets‌
Biosafety cabinets are negative-pressure devices that protect the operator, the experimental environment, and the sample, making them suitable for handling infectious materials. In contrast, clean benches only protect the sample and should not be confused with biosafety cabinets.
